Holiday Letter from Brown’s
Dear friends, patrons and family,
Happy Holidays from Brown's!
In light of the Holiday festivities and community togetherness of Pumpkin Fest, we are reminded of all the things that are truly Sycamore.
Brown’s County Market has been in existence since 1945, assuming just two names; Brown’s Supermarket and Brown’s County Market.
We started out on the corner of State Street and Governor after my grandparents purchased the little corner market from the Darling family.
Since 1945 Brown’s has donated over $2 million to various groups, organizations, baseball and softball teams, museums, churches, beauty pageants, and personal benefit dinners, just to name a few. Over the years, we have received some very special awards, plaques, and mentions for some of our accomplishments and generosity.
But, we are not here to win awards and get recognition for what we do. We are simply here to give you the best locally owned and operated grocery store that we possibly can. We are not the biggest. We do not have the newest facility. We do not have multiple advertising vehicles to win you over. While often we are, we are not always going to be the cheapest. But what we will do is to strive every time to give you the best price we possibly can with an extra personal touch. Most of all we will continue to give back to the community that has supported us since 1945.

Browns County Market expanding gluten-free line
As consumers become more aware of what is in the food they eat, companies are striving to produce healthier products with better ingredients. These can come in the form of organic or natural foods.
One other such line of foods is gluten-free products. Browns’ County Market has started selling a line of gluten-free products designed for people who are allergic to gluten, or for those just looking to cut it out of their diet.
Gluten is a substance found mostly in wheat, rye and barley products, such as cereal and pasta. Some people have serious allergies or reactions to the product, such as celiac disease, which impedes the digestion of gluten and therefore they must avoid it entirely.
Browns’ County Market has started selling a line of gluten-free products, which is located in the produce section of the store.
“We started selling gluten-free products a few years ago,” owner Dan Brown said. “Most recently we expanded the gluten-free selection to meet the needs of the growing gluten-free customer. Most of the people eating gluten-free products do so because of a need to avoid an allergic reaction that can, in some cases, be deadly. However, there are a growing number of people eating it to lose weight, and they feel better from omitting gluten from their diet.”
According to Brown, the store is expanding its organic food selection as well, on a request basis, and is basically doubling its selection of natural, organic and gluten-free product assortment.
